Books, Breathing Room, and the Women Who Miss The Quiet

I’ve always loved reading. Like, really loves it. And somewhere along the way, that’s how I fell in love with writing, too. There used to be times, even when the noise was everywhere, but when I cracked open a book, something shifted.

The world doesn’t go away, but it quiets. Just a little. My heart beats softer. My mind stops sprinting. For a few pages, the chaos fades into the background, and I was just… there.

Let it be just a few pages, but it’s a sacred little pause I choose for myself. But then, life got loud. Notifications. Work chats. Kids. Family. The pressure to “stay productive” and “make every second count.”. And eventually, books just become somebody I used to know.

It didn’t die. It’s still there. That forgotten love. But somehow, it just sleeps.

The Struggle to Find Time for That Love of Reading

Ever since, I have been trying to rekindle that love again. But somehow I just can’t find any time to do so, which frustrated me so much. But you know what didn’t die? The love of buying books. Like a moth attracted to flames, I just kept on finding interest in buying books, and adding them to the shelf collection.

Anyway, long story short, when we were stepping into 2025, I reaffirmed that passion. To read and write again.

The love to talk and write; those were what birthed The PoTato Talks.

And the passion for reading? That’s what gave life to this little corner I call Wander Women. It’s a space for rekindling that quiet love with books. Where I want to talk about any quotes, page, paragraphs, chapters, or even just a sentence from the book I recently read. Perhaps the parts that made me stop, think, cry, laugh, or smile. My own sweet wondering and wandering time.

I’ll also drop reading recommendations and personal reflections sparked from the pages for you girls, who enjoy wandering like me. It’s my gentle nudge to keep reading — and my reminder to keep going.

Together – One Page at A Time

But more than that, this space is for you too. If there’s a line you can’t stop thinking about, a book that changed your life, or even just a sentence that brought you peace — please, share it here. You don’t have to be a bookworm or a fast reader. You just need to feel.

So welcome to Wander Women. Let’s pass the quiet on, one page at a time.

Not Just Reading; It’s a Return to Yourself

We often treat reading like another item on the to-do list.

“I should read more.” “I haven’t finished that book from last month.” “I need to get through at least 20 pages tonight.”

But what if we let go of the pressure to perform, even here? What if reading were less about pages turned… and more about what softens in us when we read?

Reading becomes a return. To calm. To think. To the voice that gets drowned out in daily noise. To the version of us that still dreams, still feels, still wonders.

Making Space for Reading Women in Real Life

Life is loud. Especially for women juggling work, family, emotional labor, and 284 WhatsApp groups.

So we find pockets:

  • 7 minutes in the car before going inside
  • While stirring the pot, with the book propped open
  • Audiobooks during laundry
  • Weekend mornings when the world still sleeps

Ritual doesn’t mean perfect. It just means intentional. And honestly? That’s beautiful, just as it is.

In the Quiet, To Hear Yourself Again

That’s the thing. It’s not just about the words on the page — it’s about the space reading creates.

The breathing room. The inner hush. The reminder that you’re allowed to slow down. That you’re allowed to be human, not a machine.

Sometimes, reading is the only time I remember who I am beneath the noise. And that remembering? It saves me.

If You’ve Been Too Busy to Read Lately…

That’s okay. Honestly, me too.

You don’t need to start big. Pick up something short. Something gentle. Something that doesn’t demand too much from your already-tired heart.

Then light a candle. Or don’t. Make tea. Or don’t.

Just come as you are.

Let your book be a doorway. Let your ritual be a reminder. You are still allowed to feel peace. Even in a noisy life.
